30 Days Journal - Day 21

I am a terrible journal-er. As an exercise to become better, I decided to do a 30 day journal challenge for myself. Just like during my quarantine, I am using Isolation Journals for daily journal prompt.

Prompt: How did you learn (or how are you learning) to balance work and play?

My mom has always told me to work really hard when you are working and when it’s time to play then play your heart out. That was always the motto I followed. I think I am pretty good at balancing work and play because I always looking forward to the play and in order for me to have uninterrupted play time I work hard and make sure everything gets done. I would not consider myself a really hard worker, but when I focus and need to get something done I will get it done without losing focus. However, when I play I put my phone away and focus on relaxing or whatever it is at play. How to balance is hard but I think it needs to be build into your routine. When I am very busy, I would work until before I go to bed but I need to set boundaries for how much needs to be done today and how much can be done the next day. Before I go to bed, I relax for 10-20 mins by either reading or watching a show. Before I go to bed, I don’t want to be thinking about work.

When I also get too boggle down with work I would set-up time during my day to fit the play time in. I also learned to put alarms for myself to have a hard stop on certain tasks I’m doing as a reminder now I should be doing something else. I think it is important to really balance these aspects of your life to reduce the tension and stresses in your day to day life. There will always be work, there will always be thing you need to focus on but do not forget to let the release valve open so the pressure doesn’t get too dangerous.
