Reco Corner: Anime #2
Yes, I am a 20 something adult but I still have an infinity for good anime. Since this era of social isolation began, I have caught on a few great anime that I want to share with you. Unlike my previous anime recommendation, this time I will provide a bit more categories on why this is a worthy anime to spend time on.
P.S. - You may noticed that I have the same taste in anime as a teenage boy. 💁🏻♀️
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
One Sentence Synopsis: A teenage boy is set-out on a journey as a demon slayer to turn his younger sister back to human.
Plot: (4/5) Without giving out too much, it reminded me of Bleach and Harry Potter in various elements.
SPOILER ALERT (parts written in italic): Similar to Bleach the main weapon are swords and a lot of elements you love about Bleach. Similar to Harry Potter, because the protagonist is an orphan who has a scar on his forehead and the antagonist is someone who cannot be named.
Art Style: (5/5) Traditional + Digital - it’s one of the best anime to seamlessly transition between hand drawn style and digital style.
Characters: (4.5/5) I love all the characters, especially the younger sister - she’s a bad ass female that I want more of in anime. Not only her, but I love all the female characters as they all have distinct personalities and are all pretty bad ass. The only reason I dodged the 0.5 points from perfect was Tanjiro (the protagonist). Tanjiro was a bit too righteous, smart, likeable and just too perfect. Which reminded me of heros in old school anime. Where I would like to see more flawed main characters, like Naruto in Naruto or Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist. I also like Tanjiro a lot, but I don’t gravitate toward him as a main character, or rather cannot relate as much as I can to Naruto’s and Ed’s character development.
Why I am recommending it: Like any strong anime the plot and characters are great on its own, but what takes it beyond most shonen anime is the anime production. The art is simply beautiful and the anime soundtrack is flawless - the quality is or almost movie standard which you don’t get in most anime that are derived from mangas. Also, if you’re worried about fillers like the one Naruto and Bleach were on for a few hundred episodes for the manga to catch up - well worry not, the manga has officially ended as of May 2020 - before the second season of the anime is out.
