Things to Do: in Chiang Mai

I spent 3 weeks in Chiang Mai and here are some of the places I recommend you do.

What to do:

  • Temples, temples, temples (you can go through all the temples in the Old City in a day) (first picture below)

  • Cooking Class (second picture below)

  • Sunday night market in Old City

  • White Temple and the Golden Triangle - It is a full day trip as it is closer to Chiang Rai and takes about 12-14 hrs for the tour. (third picture below)

  • Learn Meditation with a Monk – At the end there is a Monk chat where you can ask the Monk anything (forth picture below)

  • Get a massage (normal or Thai or foot) – Normal range is 200-300 baht for 60 mins.

  • Try Muay Thai or Watch Muay Thai fights (fifth picture below)

  • Doi Inthanon (sixth picture below)

What to eat:

  • Khao Soi

  • Mango Salad (with raw seafood in it)

  • Mango Rice

  • Fried local fish

  • Drink some Chang Beer

  • Go vegan for a day (there are so many options such as curries and salads for you to choose from)

  • Morning Glory (this is personally my favourite vegetable)

Workable Coffee Shops:

  • Ombra Coffee - Great place to meet Nomads (first picture below)

  • My Secret Cafe in Town - The menu here is pretty extensive and every Tuesday night there is a life band (second picture below)

  • CAMP at MAYA - A communal workspace, however not a lot of back support chairs (which is a strange complain but my old age back needs it). (third picture below)

Restaurants I recommend:

I didn’t go to too many restaurants because food stalls in malls are pretty good.

  • Tikky Cafe - Thai food, great variety of vermicelli and noodles (first picture below)

  • ยำปูม้าเจ็ดยอด (Spicy Seafood Papaya Salad) - It is super local but it’s just superb. There will be waiters who speak English, so just ask them to help you order (or ask for recommendations). It is spicy though, but it’s well deserved. (second picture below)

  • Khao Tom Baht Diao - Cheap eats but tons of variety (third picture below)

  • Khao Soi Khun Yai - Best Khao Soi I had (forth picture below)

  • One Nimman - It’s a big outdoor shopping complex that has a European style square but it has a lot of good variety for food

  • Kat’s Kitchen - Thai food, so much great variety at a good price (fifth picture below)

  • Taste From Heaven - Vegan food, seriously considered to practice veganism because of this restaurant. Order the thai ice tea with coconut milk, it’s out of the world! (sixth picture below)

  • Dash - Thai food, this might be more for tourist for locals because of the price but the food and the service is amazing

  • Salad Concept - Salad and healthy meals, it is a chain (the link is just to the one I always visit) but very popular among the locals
