30 Days Journal - Day 19

I am a terrible journal-er. As an exercise to become better, I decided to do a 30 day journal challenge for myself. Just like during my quarantine, I am using Isolation Journals for daily journal prompt.

Prompt: Think of someone whose work you admire. A great writer. An artist. An actor or musician. Even a politician. Someone you don't imagine you could ever get close to, or who would ever take notice of you and your concerns under normal circumstances. Now "do a Brooke." Write to that person, explaining what it is exactly you admire, and why you'd love to meet them.

Dear Mr. Mathers [Eminem],

First of all, I want to thank you for your music. Although looking back, I don’t know if I agree with all the lyrics, I still really appreciate and enjoy your music. As an angsty teenager, you were the soundtrack of my life and has made me really appreciate rap as an art form. Because of you, I have extended my love for the genre into hip-hop and R&B - to this day. It opened my world up to not only hip-hop as a music but also dance. Although your music does not speak to everyone today as it did back in the early 2000s, you still demonstrated how powerful rap can be to express yourself - beyond just flexing. The first rap concert I ever been to was yours in 2014, when you brought Rihanna on stage on your Lollapalooza stage. I love every moment of that collaboration. I love most of your collaborations, I thought it was so clever and well thought out when you decide to work with an artist. That concert was still my favourite rap concert, as the energy you expressed is unparallel to many rappers today. To this day, when I need some pumping up, your music is always played in the background. It motivated me to do more, just one more and another one and eventually everything will work out.

Some of your music videos are just so creative and imaginative. It shows your dedication to your craft, that it does not just end after the music but the imagery you create in this video carry on with the words that echo through that speaker.

You are a craftsman at your own level. You are the rap god, there is no doubt in my mind. I want you to know how much you meant to me and how much I appreciate your craft.

Yours truly,

William
