30 Days Journal - Day 24
I am a terrible journal-er. As an exercise to become better, I decided to do a 30 day journal challenge for myself. Just like during my quarantine, I am using Isolation Journals for daily journal prompt.
Prompt: Recall a conversation. Perhaps it is an inner dialogue you’ve had many times; perhaps it’s a real conversation, or one you imagine having with a loved one as soon as you can see them again. Think of how your aloneness has unfolded throughout quarantine. Can you remember the first time you added another voice? How has it been transformed by the addition of another voice, or its absence?
Now write. Record only the “responses.” Include the silences. Refine each line to its bare minimum, maintaining its integrity, before you add in the next. Perhaps one voice drops out completely—like Bach would do in a Fuga—and perspective shifts to follow the will of the accompaniment, taking you to a completely new place.
I have a question for you.
What is it?
So, come fall I have a few choices to decide on and I want your opinion.
Okay, tell me.
[Talks about his options]
Okay, first what are you leaning toward?
[Talks about the one that’s appealing to him, option 1]
Okay why do you like that one the most and why don’t you like the other two more.
[Response]
Personally, I lean toward 3. What exactly don’t you like about 3.
My problem with 3 is it stray away from my career goal.
Okay, so yes initially in some ways but I don’t think option 1 and 2 gets you closer to your career goal. Option 3 is the most financially stable. [Listing out the reasons]
You’re such a capitalist.
I am a opportunist.
[The conversation went on for 30 more minutes]
Okay why don’t we make an action plan about how you should approach this problem.
You’re such a business student.
I am a planner, through and through. You ask for my opinion and I am giving you a problem solving response. I should be charging you for this consulting fee.
Haha but you know I won’t do any of it.
It’s okay, I said my piece and did my friend duty.
[This bickering went on for 20 more minutes]
Okay I gotta go, but I miss you lots. Remember to take care of yourself, stay healthy so I can give you a big hug at graduation next year.
Yes, you need to take care too. Bisous
