Quarantine Journals - Day 13

So I am back in Canada but have to sustain self-quarantine in a hotel for 14 days. That being said, what a great day to start a daily journal. I signed up to Isolation Journals where everyday it sends out a journal prompt. I decided to give it a try and I am writing these not in any order that was sent to me but based on random.

Prompt: Imagine you’re not home (already a leap) and a friend you don’t know well is staying in your house. This friend looks around at all your framed photos and trinkets and coffee table books but they stop at one object and can’t figure out why it’s on display. Maybe it’s a strange drawing or a plastic piece of fruit or a coaster with Elvis’s face on it. Write a little narrative essay explaining the backstory of this item and why it has meaning for you.

I think whenever my friends come and visit me they are always a little baffled by my wall of faces. It’s literally a blank white wall with bunch of portraits I love drawing faces (as you may have noticed in the portrait section). It is my favourite wall and I love sitting in front of it while doing work. My old roommate used to complain how much it creeps her out. I think in Chinese culture, having a portrait hanging in your house might not be the most pleasant thing. But for me, I always find faces so fascinating. Everyone has the same features: 👀👃 👄 and in the same “order” yet everyone looks different. It’s a subtle nuances that really amazes me how people look so vastly different. Sometimes sketching humans require breaking out a ruler to make sure this person looks precisely as the person I am drawing. I started with drawing models as I am a sucker for babes but I started to draw people with more emotions. They are still works in progress but one day I will fill that wall with only faces.
